Viewpoints: One Catalog or No Catalog?
Martha M. Yee, University of California, Los Angeles
ABSTRACT: Suggests that we must find a way to share the expense of bringing our records under authority control, or face the prospect of a world in which the permanent cultural record it is our professional duty to create no longer exists. One way to do this would be to use the internet to create a single shared virtual catalog rather than the Balkanized world of thousands of separate catalogs we struggle with now.
