About UCIAS

The UCIAS Digital Collection publishes articles, monographs, and edited volumes resulting from research projects, workshops, conferences, and related efforts of internationally-oriented research centers throughout the UC system.

The UCIAS Digital Collection is the upper level of a two-tiered publication effort housed in the CDL’s eScholarship Repository. The first level consists of materials deposited as Working Papers by UCIAS-affiliated units. Scholars affiliated with these units may then recommend that individual or groups of working papers be put into peer review with the Digital Collection.

UCIAS is a partnership of the University of California Press, the California Digital Library (CDL), and internationally-oriented research units on eight UC campuses. Our mission is to disseminate high quality scholarship in the social sciences and humanities and to provide a viable venue for peer-reviewed material on the web.

UCIAS and the University of California Press

Each UCIAS Digital Collection publication is peer-reviewed according to standards set by an interdisciplinary UCIAS Editorial Board and approved by the the University of California Press. UCIAS makes digital versions of these works available free of charge to a global network of scholars via the world wide web and encourages readers to communicate directly with the authors of UCIAS publications to accelerate and expand international intellectual exchanges, critiques, and collaborations. Selected volumes will also be published in hard copy by the Press. The Editorial Board of the University of California Press has approved the UCIAS Editorial Board and through them we bestow the imprimatur of the University of California Press.

UCIAS, eScholarship, and the California Digital Library

The UCIAS Digital Collection is a peer-reviewed series within the eScholarship Digital Repository. UCIAS has been conceived as a two-tier system within the Repository, the second tier consisting of the peer-reviewed Digital Collection and the first of a number of affiliated Working Papers series at internationally oriented ORUs throughout the UC system. The eScholarship Repository is a centralized location to publish and store both peer-reviewed and pre-publication scholarship. It was created and is maintained by the eScholarship initiative of the California Digital Library. The eScholarship initiative facilitates scholar-led innovations and supports experiments in the production and dissemination of scholarly communications.
