The UCSC Department of Economics was founded in 1965 and has 25 permanent members. As a working environment, we have an active, cooperative and congenial atmosphere, with considerable joint effort and interest. Our Ph.D. program in international economics was launched in 1990. We openly acknowledge our core strength in international economics, and like to remind scholars that our faculty also conduct research in other areas, including many varieties of applied microeconomics. These working papers are issued to disseminate research results to other scholars. The authors welcome comments; inquiries may be directed to the author(s).
